Being a nutritionist the quality of the foods we serve at Haven Cottage is important to us; we aim to supply foods that are both delicious and locally sourced wherever possible, but that are also beneficial for your body too.
Lemon water - to help rehydrate our body following our nights sleep, the lemon will help to support the liver to remove toxins from the body.
Butter - Winter Tarn Dairy butter is produced in Cumbria from the cream of grass fed cattle,; being grass fed means that it will be a source of omega-3, an essential fatty acid which your body needs.
Eggs - Laid with Love Eggs sourced from The Lakes Free Range Egg Company, these eggs are produced by free range hens fed marigold extract which is a source of the antioxidant Lutein. Research has shown Lutein to have multiple health benefits, it is one of the two antioxidants located in eyes. The farms are also RSPCA assured for animal welfare.
Sausages - From our local butchers in Ambleside, these sausages are made using locally sourced meat and are gluten free, they are also free from nitrates which are best avoided if possible.
Bacon - We source our bacon from Askerton Castle Organic Estate, this bacon is preserved using Himalayan Salt and is free from nitrates.
Tomatoes & Mushrooms - These we buy from the local greengrocers in Ambleside - Granny Smiths - which has been supplying quality produce to Ambleside for many years.
Bread flour - Carrs Flours of Wigton are the producers of the flour we use to make our homemade white and wholemeal loaves, the flour has a high protein value which ensures a quality loaf.
Tea - Penningtons are based in Kendal and use only a small number of tea importers who are chosen for the quality and consistency to produce a strong and refreshing cup of Lakeland Blend tea.
Decaffeinated tea - Again from Pennington's the decaffeinated tea has the caffeine naturally removed by being soaked in water and liquid carbon dioxide, when drained washes off the caffeine.
Coffee - Red Bank is based in Kendal and has high principles for quality, traceability and sustainability and their coffee is freshly roasted in the Lake District.
Decaffeinated coffee - The Red Bank decaffeinated coffee is produced using the Natural Sugar Cane EA Process and 97% of the caffeine is removed.
Jam & Marmalade - We source these from the Hawkshead Relish Company.
Extra virgin olive oil - EVOO is produced from the olive fruit using a natural process, so it retains many of the nutrients and antioxidants. EVOO is an important part of the Mediterranean Diet which has been shown by research to be part of a healthy lifestyle.
Himalayan salt - Himalayan salt has a high mineral content, supporting many of your body's processes, such as digestion and detoxification.
Pans used - wherever possible we use green pans to reduce the toxin level in the food we produce
Every afternoon we serve complimentary homemade cake to our guests by the fire in our cosy guest lounge.
Taste comes first and our cakes get rave reviews, but we like to include ingredients that will improve flavour and add nourishment where we can.
The cakes are usually gluten-free and the recipes are produced to help reduce any negative affect on blood sugar levels.
We love to look after our guests at Haven Cottage
From tea & coffee in the guest lounge, fresh flowers in the rooms to luxury locally made toiletries we believe that it is the little details which make a stay with us that little bit more special.
It is well known now that getting out into nature is so good for our wellbeing and we have maps and routes for you to use during your stay.
